craft + activism = craftivism

Craftivism is about taking it slow, letting go of perfectionism, and focusing our minds on something we care about with a needle and thread in hand.

In this workshop, you'll receive a simple pack of resources to create your own piece of craftivism. Inspired by Sarah Corbett’s Craftivist Collective, we will follow the Craftivist Manifesto to carve out space to sit with our thoughts while putting them down on the Aida using simple backstitch.

This space is a collective call to action – through the creation of our own craftivist pieces – for participants to identify a cause or fight that is important to them and to become an activist using the subtle and effective use of needlework.

Facilitator: Gemma Lise Thornton

'I got really into Craftivism in 2019 and hung up my 50th piece in 2025. Craftivism allows me to stay present to current global injustices, but in a quiet and concentrated way.'

This session is open to everyone interested in creating a peaceful protest or who would like a space to think with no pressure.
